PC Apex Poll

Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.
I am an Intel Fanboy.
I am not considering an AM2 setup at all.
I don't care as long as I can get my email.
Phenom-what? AM2 who?! Speak english man!

Intro

Unless you have been out of the loop recently or are generally a n00b, you have heard of or seen Ultra Products' X-Connect PSUs. The popularity of these new, forward-thinking PSUs has spread faster than a virus laden email with a nude pic of Lindsay Lohan... hmm, well maybe not THAT fast, but close. :) The PSU that I am taking a look at today, the Ultra Products 600W PSU, is the beefier and less blingalicious cousin of their X-Connect and UV X-Connect PSUs. "People don't need THAT much power in a system..." is what I hear people say. Those people obviously are not power users like myself and are content to go home to their curmudgeonous little E-Machines. While it may be true that 600W will often be overkill for the core components of a PC alone, you must also factor in other power using gear. If you are a bit fanatic about GOOD cooling like I am then you most likely run a plethora of fans and if you are also an eye-candy junkie like myself then you will undoubtedly be running some cold cathodes or other light producing device. I would wager that a good many of you would be surprised by how much juice your rig actually pulls in total. I'll be using Fu3lman's excellent Overclockulator to total up my own total power use a little later. Check out the app, it's free and I find it handy. :)

Ultra Products has a pretty impressive campaign currently running that is aimed directly at Antec PSU users which they are calling their "Trade up to the best!" promotion. It's a pretty good deal, too... Send them ANY Antec PSU and they will send you up to $50 for it (depending on the model). Not a bad deal for those of you wanting to trade up to a newer PSU. Not to mention that I have NEVER seen an Antec PSU that looks as sharp as Ultra Products newer PSUs.

Be sure to pay special attention to the review since WE ARE GIVING AWAY 12 OF THESE in our PimpRig Holiday GiveAway 2004! I will be randomly giving away 1 blue 600W PSU like this each day for twelve days starting on December 14th and ending on December 25th. We are also giving away MANY other great prizes during this event... over 50 prizes in all totaling over $4,500 worth of PIMPIN' gear. Make sure you enter for a chance to win. :)

The Package

The box itself is less flashy than the boxes of the X-Connect and UV X-Connect PSUs. Seems logical to me since this PSU is geared a little less towards aesthetics and more towards simply providing more power. The package contains the PSU, a standard PSU power cord, a manual, product registration card, and an adapter to ensure compatibility with your motherboard.
