Intro
If you have a test bench system or frequently replace your hardware, do I have a treat for you! The only thing I can say for an opener on this review is that this is the most PIMP idea I have seen in a long time. Anyone that has had to pull on a molex connector knows that it can be a real pain in the butt. Sometimes they are real stubborn to pull out or it's hard to get a good grip on them. This new product from Vantec will ease your sore fingers and make swapping hardware a lot easier. When I first looked at these connectors I honestly thought they were little grips that they had put on the sides. Geez, let me tell you, was I way off base.
The Package
The front side of the package is typical for Vantec, blue with yellow band on the left. Inside there are 10 EZ Grip plugs, a (small) molex pin removing tool, and a brief instruction sheet.
What makes these new molex connectors really shine ..err.. glow, is that they are UV reactive.
Removal and Installation
The pin removal tool is small and hard to use if you don’t have coordination. Without it though, this would not be a complete kit.
Please note the order of the wires inside the molex. This is very important to note so you don't damage your computer and /or your peripherals. Vantec recommends doing one wire at a time. I recommend looking at another molex plug since there are always more on the harness.
To remove the pins from the molex you insert the pin removing tool, for best results roll the removal tool inside the molex connector. Then gently press the top of the tool to push out the pin, sometimes the pins need a little more pressure to get them out.
To install the pins back into the new molex (remember to check the proper wire sequence), just gently push them into their proper holes until they “click”. If they don’t “click”, the locking pins need to be bent out a little to lock the pin the molex.
Taking the pin removal tool apart there is the housing that goes around the molex pin. The piston fits in the pin with a recessed ring and a spring to keep the piston in the rest position.
