Intro
It’s always a pleasure to step outside my usual bailiwick as Aqua Pimp and review something a little different. And it’s especially enjoyable when you’re able to do your friends a service in the process. PimpRig regulars will certainly recognize the DragonModz name. When Lokie asked if I'd take a gander at something new at DragonModz, I jumped on it. If you don't know the name yet, check 'em out. In addition to carrying a variety of high quality/reasonably priced LED’s, Lokie and Twizted have provided one of the coolest little gizmos to hit the modding scene in a long time, the DragonModz HDD Activity Meter. You can read the review on that little gem by BigAkita rightchere.
The Switch
Today we have the latest modding doohickey carried by DragonModz, the Military Dragon LED switch. The switch is available in “Karbon Phyber” and “ICE Bloo” (shown here). Ya gotta love the color names, even if "Phyber" sounds like something robots eat to stay regular. The switch is a military style we’ve all seen before, but in addition to the new finishes, there is a blue LED embedded in the tip of the switch arm. Cool. Since the LED is rated for 12 volt operation there is no need to add a resistor for use in a PC. And with a power rating of 20 watts, this switch will handle most anything you care to throw at it.
The Package
Included in the package are a instruction sheet and four solder less female spade connectors. The crimp-on connectors make wiring a snap even for the most soldering challenged among us.
Install
Installation couldn’t be easier; all you need is a drill, a 15/32” bit and a wiring tool capable of crimping. Once the hole is drilled where you want it, two nuts are used to attach and adjust the height of the switch. The connectors are crimped onto the appropriate wires and you just slide them onto the spade terminals on the switch. A handy little wiring diagram is provided. The ground, source and output terminals are clearly marked on the switch itself. It took me nearly 30 seconds to wire it so I could show off the “Bloo” LED. It is by no means a difficult procedure.
Conclusion
And there you have it. It wasn’t a long drawn out review, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s a switch. It handles a lot of current. It’s an easy install. And it looks just damn spanky. What more could you want? As switches go, this one's a ten. The DragonModz Military LED Switch meets PimpRig's highest standards. Run over to DragonModz and get you one for a mere $15.99!
