Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.
I am an Intel Fanboy.
I am not considering an AM2 setup at all.
I don't care as long as I can get my email.
Phenom-what? AM2 who?! Speak english man!

I always liked glow-in-the-dark art!

This glow in the dark appliqué was kind of a neat edition to my reviews, and I enjoyed playin’ around with it! For those of you who are thinking “I’ve got an Appliqué already… backlit with Cathode or Neon”. I can safely say it isn’t going to stand out like this one! I’m running a blue “Atomic” symbol in front of a purple neon light. All in all, I like the effect. The pics can’t really do it justice!

Packaging

Wow… that is a LOT of packaging for such a little thing. Kick ass!

Upon Arrival, I was impressed with the amount of packaging that was used. The actual unlit light itself looked like a prize out of a box of Cereal… like a temporary tattoo or somethin’. I was kind of skeptical about it until I got it all plugged in and lit up!

This is what was lurking under all those peanuts.

All nice and neat… doesn’t look too terribly hard to figure out.

First Impression

First impression was it was a little small, and the lack of pass-through Molex made me a little upset… I had to go diggin’ for splitter before I could even light it up (I’ve been busy… you might actually have a free Molex plug). The other thing that struck me was the coloring. The center of the image is actual blue. The actually Atomic symbol is a soft turquoise color that’s really growing on me…

That’s a nice “in the dark” shot of my rig with the appliqué… not too shabby!

Specs

  • 4" x 4" EL window appliqué. (it is a might on the small side… don't think this is gonna take up the entire window)
  • 12V DC Inverter with 4pin Molex and quick connect for easy installation and removal
  • 3M Adhesive in each corner of the appliqué for easy installation (it's double-sided tape)
  • appliqué lights-up
  • Lifetime: 10,000 hours continuous operation (over 50 hours and counting for me… so far, so good!)

Install

Took me about 30 seconds to get this puppy together. Install is a snap!

Can we say “EASY” boys and girls? Basically… clean the glass, peel back the protectors from the tape, stick it on, and plug it in. Man, that was hard… I better lie down…

Conclusion

All in all, it’s a neat little appliqué. The other styles are in red and green and include Nuclear, Biohazard and Alien images. It does bring more color to a window and my only real complaint was it’s size (it’s a little small)… but if you got a couple of fans modded into your window, size is going to be your enemy when it comes time to put the appliqué in anyway! Build seems pretty solid, it’s holding up to abusive conditions thus far (as in long hours of usage… I’ve already got my first fifty hours into this thing). It also kind of pulls attention back to the coolness of my window kit and away from the mess of wires I’ve been meaning to tuck up (story of my life).

THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE OTHER STUFF… SHWEEET!

  • Cool looking all lit up. It brought some life to my window, that's for sure!
  • Easy installation (Dan Quale could figure this thing out)
  • Wiring is pretty long! You'll have all kind of space to move this thing around to where you need it.
  • Eye-Catching
  • Power wires clip together (which keeps door removal simple)
  • Lightweight (4 small pieces of double-stick tape holds it in place)
  • As a stand-alone light, I have a feeling it would look pretty cool. It would also take up a lot less space than a Cathode or Neon stick (still, don't count on it putting out anywhere near the light of either of the above).
DUDE! WEAK!
  • You can see the “Plug in” for the appliqué pretty clearly on your window… especially during the day (still, your mounting may be in a better spot).
  • No Pass-through and no free molex plugs make Homer something, something…
  • Kind of on the small side
  • No instructions (not that THAT is a big deal… if you can't figure this thing out, for shame!)

Side Note

For other projects, I’m thinking that I might run it through and attach it to the inside of my Antec 1030’s front panel. I think it’d be kind of cool to have a soft blue glow coming through the slots and a cool little image… I’ll get back to ya’ll on how it looks. I think it has more potential for odd projects than any other appliqué, so just ‘cause I have it in a window, don’t think ya gotta keep it there!
