PC Apex Poll

Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.
I am an Intel Fanboy.
I am not considering an AM2 setup at all.
I don't care as long as I can get my email.
Phenom-what? AM2 who?! Speak english man!

Intro

Once again I get to review an innovative piece of equipment. This review was brought to you by a couple of guys that had a rat’s nest of cables behind seven systems. I have a hard enough time with two to three systems let alone seven of them! They figured that there has to be a better way. With serious conviction of thought, research, and creativity, they developed the Cable Manager from Cable Safe

The Package

I have to admit that the box is less than appealing for the crazy modder in me, but being the business man that I am the box is very professional. Inside you will find a full set of very detailed instructions with illustrations.

Cable safe offers three versions of their Cable Manager. There is the Space Saver and Expansion/Wall Kits that can handle 8-12 cables, and the Complete Kit which is a combination of both and can handle up to 14 cables and this does not even include the shelf capability of the hooks. All pieces are made of durable reinforced nylon and come with a 10 year warranty. That’s a very pimp warranty for a new company. This shows how confident they are in their product.

Contents of the Complete Kit:

  • Desk Clamp: This clamps to the edge of virtually any desk surface and serves as a mounting bracket for the cable hooks and cable track.
  • Cable Track: More cable hooks mount on this rail setup. As an option, if the Desk clamp can’t be mounted to the edge of a desk, the track can be mounted directly to a wall or desk.
  • Cable Hook: These hooks can be mounted to the desk clamp or the cable track. When mounted on the cable track in a pair, they can act as a shelf for a modem, router, or in my case, a large surge protected power strip.
  • Cable Labels: This is self explanatory but there 60 labels all color coded to use at your preference.
  • Cable Straps: This roll contains 18 Velcro-like ties to tidy up the cables.
  • Cable Guides: These self-adhesive plastic guides can be used to route a couple of cables. Even though the adhesive pad is not reusable, the plastic will clamp and unclamp for multiple uses in case you add and remove a cable from the guide.
  • Bungee Straps: These small little elastic strings are used to secure the larger items if needed onto the cable organizer.
  • Mounting Screws: 4 screws are provided if you opt to permanently install on a wall.

Closer Look

The desk clamp is adjustable to mount on any desk as thin as 1/4" (6mm) up to 1 5/8" (4cm) thick. The cable track slides into tabs on the clamp and is held firmly in place. The holes down the center are the alternate mounting holes in the cable track which are for a more permanent mounting if needed.

The cable hooks snap into place on the cable track or the cable hook. Depending on the space and number of cables there are, the cable manager seems to be able to handle it all. If needed the hooks can be on either side of the Desk Clamp with or with out the cable track as well.
