Intro
Logisys has been around for 24 years in the PC industry. They started out in 1990 with a distribution business by importing input devices, monitors, and PC accessories. Nowadays they work closely with distributors in China and Taiwan to bring you latest in PC peripherals. Logisys plans to stay on top of the industry and provide everyone from the casual gamer too the most aggressive modder. With their friendly and knowledgeable staff they will be around for a very long time.
What they have sent me today is their Optical Wheel Mouse. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Logisys when I was informed this mouse was coming. When I received the package I was a little skeptical on the contents. The shape is a little different that what I was expecting.
The package
The package was shipped well packed and arrived in good condition. Why do I always feel like I’m reviewing the dam postal service every time I receive these reviews? The box has a clear plastic cover to show the mouse. Inside the box was the mouse with a PS2 connector? I was a little shocked to not find a USB connector. The back of course lists the features for this mouse:
The Optical Wheel Mouse
-
OS compatibility – Windows 95 to Windows XP
-
High Precision optical mouseUV reactive (except for the black)
-
Plug and Play, no driver required
-
Scroll without needing scrollbars – scroll wheel
-
Scroll wheel doubles as third button
-
Optical Tracking Engine – scans the desktop multiple times a second for smooth and fast cursor
-
Comfortable shape – shape provides easy control for either left or right hand
Pulling the mouse out of its package, the first thing to note was how light it was. The shell is all plastic with 2 buttons and the wheel. The wheel is plastic with a translucent rubber piece on it. The shape was different with having a high arch for the hand to rest on.
On the back side there are four plastic feet for stability and the optical eye.
The side has a grip for your thumb, which could have been a perfect place for two more buttons.
Installation
To use the mouse, plain and simple, just plug it in to the mouse designated ps2 port. Any Windows OS will recognize the mouse. When it’s plugged in there are two blue LEDs, one that illuminates the wheel and the second lights up a little section towards the front.
Usage
Now I have been using the Logitech MX series since they have been released. My whole family uses them from my son too my mom. Going from a MX700 to this mouse was very weird. The 700 is a tad over 6oz the Logisys OWM (optical wheel mouse) is Half that with the cord. There is no “real” software test for an optical mouse.
Playing some games to get the feel for the mouse was a bit uncomfortable. The shape just didn’t feel right to me. Even though there is four plastic feet on the bottom, when I would slide to the left the mouse wanted to tilt left. After I sanded down the feet a little it stabilized a little more but the mouse still wanted to role left actually lifting off the mouse pad. This action took a while to get used too. I don’t think I ever would have noticed if this was tested on a soft mouse pad.
Using the mouse for daily spreadsheets in word and excel it performed just fine, fast tracking, accurate clicks, and the wheel was smooth. My review on this mouse is purely my opinion and after searching the net for a price on this specific mouse I have to say it’s not a bad deal for under $10 for maybe a back up mouse or a person using a PC for surfing. This is definitely not a gaming mouse, it’s just too uncomfortable.
Conclusion
While this is not the worlds greatest mouse, but for about $10 you honestly get what you pay for. I award the Logisys Optical Wheel Mouse a 5/10. This item is available at Xoxide.com for $12.99.
