Since the Phenom will run on AM2 will you (or do you) use an AM2 setup?
I already am on AM2 and plan to stay.
I was already planning to move to AM2.
I am moving to AM2 because it will support the Phenom.
I am waiting till the Phenom is out for a while but will consider it.
I am an AMD Fanboy.
I am an Intel Fanboy.
I am not considering an AM2 setup at all.
I don't care as long as I can get my email.

Ever since Ultra introduced the X-Connect they have become a household name to the PC industry. They continue to broaden their arsenal with an ever growing product line. Their product line is not the bottom feeder’s equipment either, from fast memory to cables, Ultra Products is riding the edge where most online retailers would like to be. Ultra has some great quality products that perform as well as they look.

Soon to be added to the Ultra Fire line up is the Ultra Copper Heatpipe for Athlon XP/64. This is an aluminum copper heatpipe with two 80mm fans to remove heat. Heat pipe technology is becoming more popular by the day, I became a heatpipe believer when I did my very first heatpipe review. If the design is right you can get great results which leads to lower temps.

Heatpipe designs can also fail to perform, they are all dependent on 3 things; the container, the wick, and the fluid used. The container used has to be able to maintain the internal pressure of the fluid, transfer the heat to one end, and enable heat to be transferred from the working fluid. The wick or also known as the capillary is used to transfer the fluid vapor to the cooling fins area. Last would be the fluid that is used to boil and condense inside the container. Now that you have a short explanation of the heat pipe workings let’s have a look at what Ultra is bringing to the Pimp’n PC market.

Payload

Shipment arrived in good condition from UPS in what looked like an awfully large box for a heatsink.

Peeling the box open I discovered why the box was a little large, there were 2 heat sinks in the box?! To my surprise I had two review items in this box, I will finish the heatpipe review first and follow up with the second one which looks like a socket 775 cooler. Also, the only packing material used were some airbags which hardly counts for a shipping ready package. This is sort of a ding on Ultra, but they are really a supplier and not a retail store. Still, shipping out a review item packed this way could easily damage the contents.

The plastic hanging clamshell packaging allows for an all around view of what you would be purchasing if you were in a store; which is what we do here thereby saving you the trip.
