Looking for some wet and wild action?
Before I get started, special thanks to Chris at Xoxide for making this article possible! Okay, so when they brought this baby to my door, I smiled like the Cheshire Cat from “Alice in Wonderland” (I think I freaked out the UPS guy, actually).
Koolance has a pretty good rep for pre-assembled, water-cooling and I’ve heard good things about the overclocking abilities of a water-cooled rig. The last few days have been interesting, but I have to admit, reviewing this thing was a blast! Check out the full review, I gave the ol' camera a work-out on this one!
Yep, there's my Antec 1030SX ready to get ripped. Sorry ol' girl, but I need your parts.
One minute; full computer. Next; Looks like a stripped car from da Bronx.
The Koolance PC2-C included several “firsts” for me (including building a water-cooling rig to name the first). I’m a master of silenced air-cooling… using the tricks of the trade such as Dampening Material, Whisper PSUs (Power Supply Units), Silenced Fans, etc… but I have been wanting to see if the “grass was greener on the other side”, so to speak. After playing around and learning more about it, Water Cooling has a lot of advantages! I don’t think I’ll be going back to air anytime soon… not with as much as I’ve overclocked my rig! I feel like a new father, as I keep wanting to show pictures of my pride and joy to total strangers…
Tech Specs:
Weight: 23 Pounds (Empty)
Weight: 40 Pounds (Operational.. .although my scale died shortly after this test… so it may a little more or less)
Dimensions: 18.1" x 7" x 17.9"
Pump: 1030CCs per/Min
Operational Temps: 41oF to 104oF (5oC to 40oC)
Drive bays: TOTAL: 8
Almost the entire front is open. The bottom-most drive-bay cover covers up nothing though… You could cut it out with a Dremel PDQ if you needed it though…
External:
4- 5.25 bays (3 usable as one is reserved for the radiator)
2 -3.5 bays
Internal:
2 3.5 bays
PC STATS:
If you’ve managed to dig your way through the gallery to my rig (Quiet but Cool 1 and 2), basically, I’ve relocated my old hardware:
- VIA P4X2 Mobo
- 478 Chipset 1.5 Ghz P4 (OC’d to 1.60)
- 512 DDR PC-2100
- Geforce 3 Ti-200
- 2 Hard-drives (30 and 80 gig) running at 7200 RPMs
- 431 Watt PSU (Enermax Whisper)
MOBO TEMP BEFORE INSTALL:
According to my internal temp monitoring on my mobo, my CPU is running at a chilly 16.5 C/ 61 F as of my last check before taking down my rig. This is with four fans, powered full bore off my Rheobus + 2 fans in my Enermax PSU. My Heatsink is a wussy Intel generic. I’ll be posting the H20 cooling scores below.
Not too shabby. I think I'll keep it.
