It's been a great run here at PC Apex serving on the review staff. I've had the opportunity to look at some pretty great products and a few not-so-hot products. Unfortunately, I've just taken on a few too many projects in the past couple of months that limits even my sleeping time. This review will be my last one for PC Apex until such time as I'm able to free up my schedule. So, what better way to end my tenure then reviewing a top-of-the-line gaming case from one of the biggest players on the block, MGE?

The gaming PC case industry has really taken off in the past few years with the younger generation become more and more tech-savvy. No longer does a kid need to hide their passion about computers from the jocks in the school as gaming brings out the geek in everyone. LAN parties are slowly beginning to replace the usual Saturday night hanging out at the mall. As a result, the demand for some "bling-bling" has increased exponentially and the company that can step up the plate is one that is going to succeed.

Introducing the Dragon by MGE. MGE has described this case on their website that this PC case is "for those gamers who want uncompromising performance at the highest levels and are willing to invest in the best of the best". From just the initial impression (and the price tag), it appears that the Dragon has quite a lot of offer the gamer looking for the coolest thing on the block....er, LAN room. Let's see if they can live up to the hype they created.

Specifications

Now for a look at the specifications and what I can hope to see from this new case from MGE. Looking over these specifications, I think that I might like what I'm going to see. The included power supply has the +4 option, PCI express, and SATA molex connectors, a removable motherboard tray, and tool-less drive cage. Let's see how it's going to rate.

Package

The Dragon arrived in an unusual packing method. A large, simple brown box that had been cut down and the flaps on the top had overlapped. Once I opened the brown cardboard box, I realized that it was actually a protective box for the actual PC box. Possibly unnecessary as the Dragon is already pack in quite a sturdy box but I understand if MGE preferred that it arrived to the reviewer in the same condition as it left the company.

I removed the PC box and my first impression was, "how heavy is this thing"? The box has it listed as being a mere 10lbs while the product web site states that it is almost 15lbs. Folks, I can tell you this... the case is certainly on the more liberal side of that 15lbs. The box itself appeared to be roughed-up in that it seems to have been handled a lot. Although there was no external damage, it did appear to have been around the block a couple of times. Thankfully, the only damage that I could find was cosmetic since this box appears to have been built out of some very sturdy cardboard; ensuring that it arrives at your doorstep in great condition.

I will have to admit that I was really surprised when I first opened the box. Laying in the box, right on top, was a press kit for the Dragon PC along with a very detailed specification sheet about MGE and their race to dominate the gaming PC market. The instruction manual with the Dragon case is perhaps the most complete and most comprehensive instruction manual that I have ever received with a computer case. Bravo, kudos, and other praises goes out to MGE for this work of art. As a test, I showed it to a friend who has a very basic knowledge of what the guts of a computer looks like. I popped the panel off the side of the review case, showed him the instruction manual, and he was able to pretty much follow along with minimal help from me and the motherboard manual on recognizing and performing the steps to building a computer.

Lifting up the top packing piece, I noticed a strange piece of plastic stuck inside and wondered whether I should keep it or not (then I realized what it was). Wrestling the Dragon out of the box was as simple as using the built-in handle. A quick check of the exterior of the case with the plastic on showed no visible damage to the case.
