Intro

With so many speaker packages available, how do you know exactly what you are buying? Before we continue I believe it's only proper to explain exactly how a speaker system package is defined.. Aside from the model number, a speaker package is defined by how many speakers the package supports. The most common packages available are 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1. The number to the left of the decimal is the number of satellites the speaker package supports. The number to the right of the decimal, in most cases is 1, defines the subwoofer. Subwoofers focus mostly on lower frequencies, and are meant to be felt instead of just being heard.

In a world where a 5 or more speaker setup is the latest crave, the original 2.1 speaker setup has been overshadowed and underrated. Although a 2.1 speaker setup may not offer the surround sound of 5.1 package, it does offer some advantages. First off, space is saved since there are only 2 satellite speakers. This setup usually will not need speaker stands or brackets. And since in most office situations users may not need an earth-shattering speaker package, there is no reason to purchase a 5.1 or higher speaker package.

For users who do not need a desktop full of speakers, Logisys Computer Inc. has released a stylish selection of 2.1 speaker packages. Within this selection, the SP6001 series is the most professional looking set and is available in either black or white; this review will be based white model (SP6001WT).

Package & Contents

Within the usual brown shipping box, the SP6001 had the usual retail package that most speaker sets are found in. This box was much bigger than I first anticipated.

Inside of the retail box, the SP6001 speaker set was safely packaged in styrofoam and each piece was individually wrapped in plastic. Each cable was held together by a twistie tie and also packaged in plastic.
